What is pain? Did you ever really consider the purpose of pain? Pain is actually good for you. It tells you that there is something wrong; That there is a problem. So what does the average person do when he/she experiences pain? He takes a pain-killer or analgesic. A pain-killer only does what it says, it kills the pain. It doesn't fix the problem. Suppose you fall and fracture your arm, but did not feel any pain. You would get up, brush yourself off and go on your merry way, continuing to use your arm and cause further fractures and possibly dislocate it as well.

What is the "normal everyday headache"? Those of you old enough to remember the old Excedrin commercials probably never considered the cause of a headache. They only know that Excedrin told them that it was normal to have a headache. So does that mean that if you don't get headaches you are not normal?
Pain is a warning system within your body to signal that there is a definite problem. DO NOT IGNORE IT! Taking analgesics or anti-inflammatory agents simply acts as a bandaid. They do not resolve your problem. They temporarily cover up the pain. In many cases, this allows your problem to get worse. Let me give you an example. Suppose you feel indigestion as a result of too much acid in your stomach. You take antacids which give you relief. Terrific right? Wrong! If you know people who take antacids, they will probably agree that they had to continually increase the number of antacids in order to get relief. Why? The body needs to produce acid to digest proteins so as the antacids reduce the amount of acid in the stomach, the body produces more. Eventually the increased acid eats away at the stomach wall and results in an ulcer.
How about a person who develops a toothache and takes advil which relieves it. Once it wears off, the pain returns and she continues to pop advils. As time goes on, instead of having the cavity filled, she ignores the cavity, which eventually spreads throughout the tooth resulting in a possible root canal, infection or even complete deterioration of the tooth!
Sometimes you just can't tolerate the pain and you may have to take some medication, but don't ignore the problem at the same time. You must seek a healthcare professional who can properly diagnose and then correct your problem. If a doctor tells you, "it will go away eventually", consider another opinion because chances are the pain may disappear, but can return in a more chronic form later on. A chiropractor is the type of specialist who understands how the body works, how to diagnose various causes of pain and how to correct many problems. He is also trained to recognize medical conditions that require the referral to an appropriate medical specialist.
