According to "Hospital Medicine":

A few medications — including warfarin, insulins, oral antiplatelet agents, and oral hypoglycemic agents — cause most of the problems that lead to emergency hospitalization in older patients.

So what does one do with this information?  Stop taking the meds?  No, of course not.  Warfarin is coumadin, an anti-coagulant, given to patients who had strokes or heart attacks.  Obviously insulin is used for certain cases of diabetes.  You can't stop these medications, but you can do everything possible to get as healthy as you can by eating fruits and vegetables, avoiding fried foods, red meat, and refined foods.  Of course, exercise should be a major priority in your life.  Speak to your doctor about these options.  As I always say, prevention is much easier than treatment.  For those of you who are not on medication, adopt a healthy lifestyle now before you develp problems that will require the use of medications. Chiropractic patients have a distinct advantage over those who have never been to a chiropractor.  They are exposed to healthy living and taught the specific things they can do to improve their health.  Whether they choose to make the effort is their choice.
